CBI RAIDED CM's RESIDENCE IN HIMACHAL PRADESH
CM engaged in his daughter's marriage; CBI, in wealth probe
Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, Virbhadra Singh, is
in clutch of CBI in the allegation of unaccounted wealth.
The CBI raided Saturday early morning on his own
residence in Shimla. The Central Bureau of Investigation and Enforcement Department
with its team of 18 probed his home. The raids were conducted on 11 places in
Himachal including Delhi.
The case of unaccounted wealth has been registered under
Anti Corruption Law against Virbhadra. There is marriage of his daughter on
Saturday too. The Congress leader, Gulam Nabi Azad expressed his regret on the
incident that, in spite of being marriage of daughter, the CBI raided.
The
state cabinet had defended its CM on accusation of corruption. The cabinet
ministers had said the union government intends to destabilize the congress
government in Himachal.
There is allegation of fraud on Virbhadra’s income tax. The Income Tax Department is scrutinizing the revised income tax return since 2009-2012. He has earned the hefty proceeds by apple orchards in the past a few years.
Virbhadra was the Iron-Ore Minister in UPA-2. During the tenure he was alleged to amassing the wealth of Rs 6 crore more than his income. The CBI has registered the case of a preliminary inquiry against the members of his family in June; and the raids on his bases are in the wake of that investigation.
