BRUTAL MURDER OF WIFE
Shot 3 bullets; One embedded in wall; other 2
sustained respectively one head and next on neck; pushed her body into Tandoor (bread baking
furnace)
It was
the day 2nd July 1995 in India when a new text of murder in the world of crime
was written. a sensational murder was committed, which could have horrified
everybody just hearing the disposal of body. The murder case has been later
known as 'Tandoor Case'(Bread Baking furnace). The accused, Sushil Sharma, is
free on payroll, but the final decision of his acquittal from sentence has to
be done by the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi.
It was
late evening about 8.30 pm when gunshots were overheard from government flat
number 8/2A at 'Goal Market' New Delhi. The neighborhoods felt some crackers
were left. Everywhere a deep silence was suffused. After a while, a shadow was dragging out a
heavy thing in polythene sack from flat; the sack was put in the car's dickey
parked outside and fled away driving it from the spot.
Sushil Sharma fled to South India after killing brutally
his wife. He tonsured his head and disguised the body; so that he could not
have been identified; but it was informed Delhi police that Sushil Sharma had
to reach in Bangalore court for advance bail. Delhi police nabbed Sushil going
at the site of court.
The dark
was deepening and the traffic on road was lessening slowly. The driver, with
polythene, looked around and sought a chance; but it failed to get. He parked
the car beside mid of the ITO Bridge. The driver came out. Actually he had
intended to hurl the polythene into the Yamuna river, but he could not do it
because of the traffic were running.
The person sat back inside the car and began to think. At
the very time he searched the idea. He changed the direction of car. Now the
car was moving toward Connaught place. Arriving at Connaught place he stopped
the car at Bagia restaurant inside Ashok Passanger residence.
Some paying guests were having their dinner. The man
after parking the car came down and reached to the manager, Keshav,. Actually
the car driver was none other but was the president of Delhi Youth Congress,
Sushil Sharma and was the owner of that restaurant. The afraid Sushil Sharma
said manager Keshav to close urgently the restaurant. After having of
customers' dinner the light of restaurant was extinguished, but Tandoor was
still flaring.
The restaurant was fully vacant; the rest employees of
restaurant had gone from there. Now the manager of restaurant, Keshav and
Shushil Sharma were present there. Sushil pulled the polythene out from the
car. Keshav was astonished seeing the body of a woman in the polythene. Sushil
Sharma with the help of manager pushed the body into Tandoor (bread baking
furnace). Tandoor's fire was not well intense. Both of them to blaze the fire
poured the butter into furnace. This idea proved constructive. The fire turned
intense.
As the work of body disposal was underway now, the billow
of fume and the blaze from Tandoor could have been seen outside. Anaro
vegetable vendor slept on footpath; woke up; looked at the fire. Anaro
understood, the fire had engulfed in the restaurant. Anaro started shouting.
The shouting was heard by the patrolling policeman Abdul Nazir Gunju. He
reached near Anaro immediate. Seeing the fire blazed in restaurant he ran
toward it. What he saw there was shocking scene, and the sensational event of
brutality was disclosed.
The brutal event was published next day on newspaper and
the leader of youth congress Matloob Karim was come to know the incident.
Matloob Karim discussed it publicly that the woman was roasted in oven was
Naina Sahni and the wife of Sushil Sharma. Matloob Karim who suspected the
murder of Naina Sahni was committed by none other but her own spouse, Sushil
Sharma. After the incident Sushil Sharma had disappeared. The police suspicion
was changed into confirmation. But the question was why Sushil did the murder
of his wife? The answer was with Sushil and he had gone away from Delhi.
Sushil Sharma’s story of being criminal in Tandoor case
from the leader of youth congress is very dreadful; as it is very much
astonishing. Sushil Sharma whom Naina Sahni had betrothed in love, he threw her
into Tandoor (furnace) only for a telephone call. Whose call was that? And why
that call made Sushil crazy? The manager of restaurant, keshav was in police custody,
but the truth of Tandoor case did not uncovered so far. Police was searching
Sushil Sharma.
After custody he confessed the truth of Tandoor case.
Actually it was a doubt of Sushil that his wife Naina Sahani and Matloob Karim
had illicit relation. Naina Sahni and Matloob Karim both was classmate and both
were in youth congress. The incident night, as he arrived at his residence, he
saw that Naina was talking on phone and consuming alchohol. Seeing Sushil, Naina hung up the call. Sushil
tried redial then reckoned it was from Matloob Karim. Both had scuffle later.
Sushil Sharma shot 3 bullets on Naina Sahni. One embedded in the wall; other 2
sustained respectively one head and next on neck. Naina died on the spot.
It was high profile case, which was not only the DNA test
of deceased but also was two times postmortem done. It was second postmortem
report which concluded that Naina’s death was not by fire, but by bullet
injuries.
The Delhi court convicted and awarded death sentence to Sushil Sharma
later 8 years under section IPC 302 murder; 120B criminal conspiracy; 201
disappearance of the evidence.
Delhi High Court upheld the Sesson Court judgment and
confirmed the punishment after 12 years.
The Supreme Court said that the Tandoor case was not the
rarest of rare case, and Sushil Sharma was not a professional criminal. He
committed the crime because of strife under private relationship. He had scope
of improvement. So the apex court awarded the punishment changing death
sentence into the life term.
After intervention of Supreme Court he came out from jail
on payroll. His release can be permanent. The final decision on his acquittal
after completion of 24 years rigorous imprisonment has to take the Lieutenant
governor of Delhi, Najib Jung.
