3 Indian Origin in Ukraine stabbed ; two dead, one seriously injured
2 students in Ukraine of Indian origin were
stabbed to death while another was seriously wounded.
“In an unfortunate event, three Indian students in Uzhgorod Medical
College (Ukraine) were stabbed by three Ukrainian nationals at around 3 AM in
the morning of Sunday, April 10,” MEA authorities said.
According to information, a local resident
of Hot-line 102 on Sunday informed the police that two bodies of youth are
lying in the street of his home, while another was seriously wounded. The
police recovered two bodies — Pranav Shandilya and Ankur Singh — from the spot;
another student, Indrajeet Chauhan, was also in trap of the attack, who has
been rushed to hospital where he is recouperating.
Shandilya was a
third year student while Singh was a fourth year student at the college. “Based
on his (Chauhan) statement, the police apprehended the assailants, Ukrainian
nationals, who were trying to cross the Ukrainian border. Passports/documents
of the three Indian students and blood-stained knife were reportedly recovered
from the possession,” MEA spokesmen said.
He said Indian
Embassy in Kiev was informed of the incident around 11 AM yesterday and it has
been trying to ascertain the facts from the police, the University authorities
and other local contacts.
“The Embassy has spoken to the families of the
two deceased students. All necessary actions are being taken to complete the
formalities for sending the two bodies to India. The Embassy is also taking up
the matter related to safety of Indian students strongly with the Foreign
Office of Ukraine,” said Swarup.
Police are questioning the Ukrainian
nationals and it has not yet known the reason for the attack. However, the
police doubt that the incident happened over a brawl between the friends during
a party. Police also recovered alcohol bottles from the place of incident.
These students are the permanent residents Pranav Shandilya, Muzaffarnagar, Ankur Singh, Ghaziabad, Indrajeet Chauhan, Agra, of Uttar Pradesh,
north-west province of India.
According to the Foreign Ministry, Our Embassy is in
touch with authorities and monitoring the case. My heartfelt condolences to
